Serving the Mohawk Valley for More Than 80 Years
Kunkel Ambulance has been a trusted name in emergency medical services in Upstate New York’s Mohawk Valley since 1939.
The company’s history mirrors the evolution of emergency medical services. Kenneth J. Kunkel established the company from a single ambulance operated out of a garage. In 1960, Kenneth’s son, Jack Kunkel, joined the business, expanding the fleet to two ambulances. By 1980, Kunkel Ambulance had become a full paramedic service, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to high-quality care. Today, the company operates from a central facility in Utica, far removed from its modest beginnings.
Kunkel Ambulance is dedicated to delivering excellence in pre-hospital care. Its mission is to set the standard for emergency medical services in Upstate New York through expert teams of EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and support staff trained in cutting-edge protocols and technologies. Beyond emergency response, Kunkel Ambulance remains deeply invested in the health and well-being of its community. The company supports local initiatives and events, reinforcing its role as a vital community partner—a tradition upheld by three generations of the Kunkel family.
Since joining the Priority Ambulance family in 2014, Kunkel Ambulance has expanded its resources while maintaining its local roots and family-focused approach. Today, it proudly serves Oneida and Herkimer counties, continuing its compassionate, community-centered care legacy.
